The 2008 Chardonnay Cahill Lane (from an old Wente clone) is also a noteworthy bargain. Seriously endowed, full-bodied, and powerful, it is an outstanding success in this vintage. Caramelized orange, candied citrus, and pineapple aromas, a full-bodied mouth feel, and very good acidity as well as concentration suggest this 2008 will age easily for 7-8 years.

92pts. Wine Advocate Professor Dubourdieu fashioned a dense ruby/purple-hued wine displaying notes of black cherries, cassis, licorice, pain grille, and earth. More structured than the 2005, with less sweet tannin, it is richly fruity, deep, medium to full-bodied, and impressively endowed. The 2006 Cuvee Number Two should drink well for 15 or more years. These wines are meant to be a cinematic study of the same terroir with the philosophy of the winemaker imprinted on each vintage, and the winemakers are given carte blanche authority to do whatever they want. It will be fascinating to compare these offerings as they evolve, but there is no doubt that some of the world's greatest winemaking talents are being lined up to continue this creative concept.

Enticing scents of chocolate, espresso, dark fruit, licorice and new leather emerge from the boisterous 2007 Palazzo della Torre. The fruit is sumptuous as always, but in 2007 Palazzo della Torre is not quite as approachable upon release as it usually is. Another year or two in bottle should help smooth some of the slightly rough edges that are present today. There is enough balance and elegance in the finish to suggest this will drink well for a number of years.

Soft tannins with a a meatier body and a fresh finish where hints of cherry jam intertwine with coffee and cocoa. A Real Winner !!
